How to change your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method

Summary

Tired of using the Microsoft Authenticator app for your DMACC login MFA? Here's how you can change it!

Body

*Note: This is for users who have already setup an MFA method. If you are a first-time user and accessing Office applications for the first time, refer to This article here

1. Open a web browser and go to Office.com (or you can click on the Office 365 link in MyDMACC)

2. Log in with your DMACC credentials

3. Once you're logged into Office 365, click on your profile icon in the upper-right hand corner, and then choose View Account

4. Once you're in "My Account", look for the "Security info" box and click on Update Info

5. You should be able to see what your current MFA method is. Choose +Add sign-in method

6. You should be prompted to choose a method. (Note: The Security Key option is a USB key, known as YubiKey, that you can plug into the computer to authenticate. YubiKeys are available for both students and staff/faculty. Please refer to This Article on how/where to obtain one)

7. Proceed going through the prompts for the method of your choosing. No matter which method you choose, it should prompt you to test your new authentication method.

8. Once your new MFA method has been setup and verified working, you should see it listed within Security Info

9. Once you're back on this page, check what the Default Sign-In Method is set as. Click the blue Change link to switch it to your new MFA method.

A few things to note:

  • You can setup however many MFA methods you'd like-  but just be mindful that the more MFA options there are, the less secure your account is if one of those methods were to somehow get compromised.

  • You can remove an MFA method by clicking the blue Delete link that is to the right of each MFA option.

  • There is no way to disable MFA. This is a requirement implemented by Microsoft as of July 2022. You need at least one MFA method setup in order to access your DMACC office account.
