Adjusting Audio and Video Settings in Microsoft Teams and Troubleshooting Options

If adjusting audio and video settings while not in a call here are the steps:

  1. At the top right of Teams, click the three-dot menu and click Settings.
  2. In the menu on the left, click Devices.

  1. Under Audio Settings, select the appropriate device for your speaker and microphone.
  2. Click Make a test call to ensure things are working properly.

  1. Scroll down in the same area to Video Settings to adjust the camera and brightness. To change the selected camera click the drop down arrow shown circled above

To adjust the settings while waiting to enter a call here are the steps:

 

  1. Click the settings gear icon below the video window to open the camera settings or click the settings slider icon listed to the right of your audio device to open up device settings.

To adjust settings while actively inside of a Teams call:

  1. Click the dropdown menus next to Camera and Mic, then change settings from there or go to More video/audio settings for more options if you aren’t seeing what you’re looking for.

If these steps don’t fix your issue, you can try these extra troubleshooting steps:

  1. Try muting and unmuting yourself on Teams. Try turning your camera off and on again.
  2. Try unplugging your headset/webcam and plugging it back in.
  3. In Teams, go to the More options three-dot menu > Settings > Video effects and settings /Audio settings and make sure that your camera/microphone are listed and select them.
  4. If they are not listed try unplugging your headset or camera and plugging it back in.
  5. For best performance, make sure to keep both your Teams client and your operating system (Windows, MacOS, etc.) up to date.
  6. If there is a Teams update available, you should see this listed at the top right of Teams.
  7. You may need to check your privacy settings on your computer/device to give Teams access to your camera or microphone.
  8. On a Windows machine, you may need to go to Windows Start and search for Sound settings, then go to input and verify that your device is listed under Input.
  9. Some headsets also have a physical mute button/slider that you may need to turn on/off.
  10. Completely Quit the Teams application and reopen it

To quit Teams, look to the bottom right of your screen and click on the arrow which will open up a box that shows applications you have running in the background

Right click on the Teams logo and select Quit Teams
